“Most people voted to call it ‘Boaty McBoatface’ and that’s what it should be called,” insists Remainer Gina Miller

People’s champion, barristers’ pocket-filler and remainer, Gina Miller, has launched a high court challenge to rename the UK’s newly-launched polar research ship ‘Boaty McBoatface’.

The ship has been named the ‘Sir David Attenborough’ but an online poll to find a name for the ship showed the public’s favourite was ‘Boaty McBoatface’.

However, ministers intervened because the name was deemed ‘silly’ and instead the ship was named after renowned naturalist Sir David Attenborough. Without any public consultation.

Ms Miller said: “I don’t know Sir David. He’s probably a very nice man but the public voted for ‘Boaty McBoatface’ and that’s what the ship should be called.

“You can’t have ministers riding rough-shod over what the public wants. That’s why I went to court over Brexit.”

It was pointed out that most people voted to leave the EU.

“Only technically. Not everyone voted and if they had it’s clear most people would want to remain, apart from old people, of course.

“Just as most people wanted to call the ship ‘Boaty McBoatface’, apart from old people.”

Even though it’s a silly name?

“That’s not the point. The ‘Sir David Attenborough’ wasn’t even on the voting form.

“Besides, I like taking cases to court. It makes me feel that even though I have loads of money I still have a place in society.”

Ms Miller would not be drawn on who or what she was going to take to court next.
